The conventional and most predominantly used Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger is basically categorized as i) Fixed Tube Sheet Heat Exchangers, ii) U-Tube Heat Exchangers, iii) Floating Head Heat Exchangers, iv) Tubular Heat Exchangers, v) Tube Bundle Heat Exchangers, vi) Stainless steel heat exchangers, vii) Titanium heat exchangers. viii) Cryogenic shell and tube heat exchangers.

TEMA Standard gives various types of constructions which are all well within the Design and Manufacturing scope of PECPL for the complete range of Pressure and Temperatures as well as the Fluid environment.

These Heat Exchangers have the following constructional features:

a) A cylindrical Shell acting as an envelope housing a Bundle of Tubes. It holds and routes the Shell side Fluid from inlet to outlet at a given Temperature, Pressure, and Flow rate over the Bundle of Tubes.

b) A Tube bundle consisting of Number of Tubes through which Tube side Fluid flows from the inlet to outlet at given Temperature, Pressure, and Flow rate. It has Transverse, Segmental Plate Baffles through which the Tubes are passed holding them as supports as well as routing the Shell side fluid across and along with the Bundle from inlet to outlet of Shell. The baffles also prevent Flow-induced Vibration of Tubes caused by the alternate motion of Shell side Fluid across the Tube Bundle. The Tubes are generally Plain, either Straight or U-Type, however, they can be of Low Fin Type, Coated Type, Fluted Type based on process conditions.

c) Front and Rear End Closures and Bonnets, usually called Inlet and or Outlet Channels to receive tube side Fluid and pass it through the tubes from one end to the other.

d) Required Heat Transfer being achieved between the Shell Side and Tube side fluids across the Tube Wall without intermixing.

Variations in the Type of Tubes and Type of Baffles are made to suit different Heat Transfer conditions. These variations lead to special-purpose units.

Titanium Heat Exchangers

Titanium Heat Exchanger:

Titanium metal is considered to have superior physical properties. It is considered to be an element that is physiologically inert. It has a high strength-to-weight ratio, which makes it an ideal material in an application where strong materials with lesser weight are essential. It is a very strong metal that has a low density with high melting and boiling points. The melting point of titanium metal is more than 1668 ˚C. The boiling point of titanium is 3287 ˚C.

Pure titanium is almost 99% pure with less density and high corrosion resistance. Titanium Heat Exchangers are used in wide service applications like Sulphuric acid, Chlorine service, Hydrochloric acid and Sea water service which calls for high Corrosion resistance. Titanium is considered to be a strong metal with an ultimate tensile strength of 430 MPa which is roughly equal to the strength of low-alloy steel. This means titanium can be used as a replacement for steel—a major benefit, as it is lighter than steel. It is twice as strong as aluminium and also denser than aluminium. When titanium is mixed with other metals, the alloys can reach a tensile strength of more than 1,300 MPa. However, titanium can lose its strength at temperatures greater than 430˚C because it is not as hard as high grades of steel. Titanium changes its form with elevated Temperatures.

Titanium Heat Exchanger with Exotic metallurgy:
All welding of titanium must be done in an inert atmosphere of argon or helium to shield it from contamination with atmospheric gases (oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen). Contamination causes a variety of conditions, such as embrittlement, which reduce the integrity of the assembly welds and lead to joint failure. Precision Equipments is specialized in Manufacturing of Exotic metallurgy like Titanium, Zirconium etc. We have a clean room facility for handling Titanium and creating inert atmosphere for welding of Titanium to be free from defects.
